IT service companies, developers and hosting providers in France

Developers and web agencies, IT service companies (ESN) and information systems consultancies, third-party maintenance and facilities management firms, hosting and data processing companies, web portals: for hardware makers, distributors, software vendors and schools that address the digital businesses of a region.

Our database for France holds 1,577,933 records (as of 4 November 2026); they are not yet assigned to industries. The quote states the size available for this industry.

Export of the whole industry: €409 (full price). Selections by region, department or your own filters are quoted on request.

Official statistics: 151,829 businesses in France according to Eurostat, structural business statistics (sbs_ovw_act) (reference year 2024, data as of 30 September 2026). Divisions 62 computer programming, consultancy and related activities (139,348) and 63 information service activities (12,481) combined; publishing, broadcasting and telecommunications are not included. This is the size of the market, not the size of our database.

Segmenting the digital sector before you order

Choose the sub-classes that match your offer (development, consultancy, maintenance, hosting), then the region. When recruiting resellers, making the website a required field lets you check the partnerships they display.

Our records do not yet carry a NAF code: selecting by activity (NAF subclass) will only be possible for records matched with the Sirene database (matching in progress). The quote states what can be done today: area and required fields.

The official figure covers divisions 62 and 63, without software publishing. It counts enterprises and says nothing about their size.

Price of the whole industry: €409. A selection by region, sub-industry or required fields is quoted individually; the whole-industry price is not a price promise for the filtered selection.

What counts as IT, software and digital services

The sector corresponds to divisions 62 and 63 of NAF rév. 2. Division 62 distinguishes programming (62.01Z), consultancy (62.02A), third-party maintenance (62.02B), computer facilities management, i.e. on-site operation of the client’s systems (62.03Z), and other IT activities (62.09Z), where INSEE places software installation and disaster recovery among others.

Publishers of standard software are not included: INSEE classifies them in 58.29, under publishing; a custom selection can add them. Website design and development belong to programming (62.01Z), not to web portals (63.12Z). News agencies (63.91Z) are also part of division 63.

No professional body, only voluntary listings

As far as we know, IT consultancy and services require no profession-specific authorisation. The public signals are registration and optional listings.

Registration with the RNE
Like any business, an IT service company or a freelance developer registers with the national business register, the single register since 1 January 2023; the information is available free of charge on the DATA INPI platform (Service Public Entreprendre).
France Num “activateurs”
The public France Num programme lists more than 4,000 “activateurs”, digital experts (consultants, solution vendors, trainers…) who support small and medium-sized businesses; they must have been active for more than six months, provide references and sign a charter (francenum.gouv.fr). It is a voluntary listing, not a licence to operate.

Not in the export

  • technologies, certifications and vendor partnerships
  • headcount, turnover and day rates
  • name of the director, CIO or developers
  • clients and project references
  • reconstructed personal email addresses

The 15 columns supplied are described on the export page.

From freelance developer to facilities manager

Sub-class 62.01Z covers large IT service companies and freelance developers alike. The export does not give headcount: to target established businesses, requiring a website and a phone number is a practical filter, though not a measure of size.

A provider working remotely may be registered far from its clients: the département, derived from the postcode, reflects the establishment’s address, not where it works.

In 63.11Z, hosting sits alongside data processing for third parties. INSEE specifies that a business that uses computers only as a tool is classified by the nature of its activity: a translation agency equipped with software is therefore not here.

Questions

IT, software and digital services: frequently asked questions

Not in the standard scope: INSEE classifies the publishing of standard software in 58.29, under publishing, not in 62. A custom selection can add sub-classes 58.29A to 58.29C; it is quoted separately.

The NAF does not always allow it: building websites falls under programming (62.01Z), just like developing business applications. Each company’s website, included in the export where known, remains the best way to sort them.

According to the CNIL, email prospecting of professionals can rest on legitimate interest when the subject of the message relates to their profession; the person must be informed and able to object easily. A developer trading in their own name is still a natural person, so their data fall under the GDPR. Our summary: B2B prospecting by email and phone.
