Status of the French company database: scope, fields and limits

This page shows the measured status of our database, the breakdown by region, the contact coverage and official comparison figures; every figure is given with its source and date.

Data as at 4 November 2026 · Official figures: Eurostat, data as of 30 September 2026 · INSEE

The French company database

Measured on 4 November 2026: 1,577,933 records, 1,505,366 of them with phone, email or website. The records come from the open map data of Overture Maps (release 2026-10-21.0, mostly under the CDLA Permissive 2.0 licence); email addresses are supplemented by those that businesses publish on their own websites. Collection from websites is ongoing, so the figures are updated as it progresses.

  • 1,577,933records in total (businesses and establishments)
  • 1,568,763of them active
  • 1,505,366with phone, email or website
  • 1,326,371with phone number
  • 659,494with their own email address
  • 1,247,091with website

As of 4 November 2026. A record is a place in the source (business or establishment) that passes our filters: confidence score of at least 0.77 and a name, excluding natural features (mountains, lakes, beaches …). A business with several addresses can therefore appear more than once. Active means the source does not mark the place as permanently closed; 9,170 records are marked as closed. The contact figures refer to all records; a record can have several contact fields, so the figures overlap and must not be added up. An email address only counts as the record’s own address if it is not shared by three or more records with different names (at least 14,504 such addresses are excluded); with any email address there are 763,118 records. 124,149 records have their own address only thanks to the company website. Phone numbers come from Overture only (a number shared by three or more records with different names is not counted); numbers found on websites are not counted yet.

Collection from company websites (ongoing)

By 4 November 2026 we had visited the contact pages and legal notices of 786,048 website domains listed in the map data, including for places below our confidence threshold; 617,802 websites were online, 419,552 of them with at least one email address we keep. Role mailboxes (dpo@, privacy@, noreply@, webmaster@ …) and web designers’ addresses are not taken over. Collection continues; the figures on this page are a snapshot at the stated date.

Sirene database: matching in progress (not counted)

INSEE’s Sirene database (stock as of 1 November 2026, Licence Ouverte 2.0) lists 16,833,577 active legal units. We process the 14,467,253 units with normal publication status, 5,501,919 of them sole traders; the 2,366,324 units with restricted publication are not processed. So far, 777,855 SIRENs (825,110 establishments) have been reliably matched to Overture places, including places below our 0.77 confidence threshold; the overlap with the records counted above has not been measured yet. The matching will add SIREN, SIRET, NAF code and legal form; it is not yet included in the figures above.

Target scope once collection is complete (estimate of 4 November 2026)

An estimate, not a stock: eventually the database should cover most French market-sector businesses, in the order of 5,178,283 businesses — the number INSEE counts in 2023 in the market sectors excluding agriculture and finance (published on 26 January 2026). The figure is an order of magnitude; we only deliver what the database actually contains and the quote confirms.

By region

The region follows from the department, which is derived from the record’s postcode; without a postcode, from the region or department code given by the source. Eurostat’s number of local units is shown alongside for comparison.

With contact = with phone, website or own email address (all records of the region). Official figure: Eurostat, local units by NUTS region (sbs_r_nuts2021), reference year 2024, data as of 30 September 2026, retrieved on 4 November 2026. The overseas departments are hardly covered by the source processed so far. Our records do not follow the statistical definition of a local unit, so the two columns are not directly comparable.

Status by industry

The 21 industries with their NAF codes, the official number of businesses and the price for a one-off export of the whole industry (full price). None of the records has been assigned to an industry yet: the NAF code will come from the Sirene matching. So there are no figures of our own per industry yet; the quote states the scope of your selection.

– = no industry assignment in the database yet. Official figure: Eurostat, structural business statistics 2024; agriculture: EU farm structure survey 2023; local authorities: municipalities under the official geographic code. What is counted per industry is detailed on each industry page. The industry figures cannot be added up to the total, because some industries overlap and agriculture and municipalities are counted differently.

Share of records with a stored phone number, own email address or website, across all records and across active records only. There are no figures per industry yet.

The records come from map data, which mainly list businesses with premises and contact details; the shares apply to these records, not to all businesses in France. The share describes for how many records a contact field is stored, not how many numbers or mailboxes can be reached.

What the contact fields are for

Phone, email address and website help you match records in your CRM, detect duplicates and prospect businesses. According to the CNIL, B2B email prospecting can rely on legitimate interest if the message relates to the recipient’s profession, with a simple way to unsubscribe in every message; generic addresses (contact@, info@) are not subject to these principles. More: B2B email and phone prospecting.

Four terms worth telling apart

  • Present: the field contains a value in the stored records.
  • Current: a statement about the status of the source; it does not guarantee the value is unchanged today.
  • Reachable: a letter can be delivered or a number reached. Our field counts do not prove this.
  • Lawfully usable: your specific purpose must be lawful. Buying data does not replace any duty to inform or the obligation to honour objections.

For a clean import, handle empty fields and possible duplicates explicitly in your import process. The export and sample file page shows the columns and checks.

For comparison: official statistics

The following figures come from Eurostat and INSEE. They describe the market, not our database, and count by their own rules.

  • 5,445,577businesses in France (Eurostat, reference year 2024)
  • 6,278,194local units of these businesses (Eurostat, 2024)
  • 5,178,283businesses in the market sectors excluding agriculture and finance (INSEE, 2023)
  • 28,532,658businesses in the other 26 EU member states (Eurostat 2024)

France: Eurostat, structural business statistics 2024 (sbs_ovw_act), businesses in industry, construction and market services (NACE B–S excluding O and S94), retrieved on 4 November 2026; local units: Eurostat, local units by NUTS region (sbs_r_nuts2021). INSEE: L’essentiel sur… les entreprises. EU: Eurostat, Structural Business Statistics (sbs_ovw_act), EU-27 33,978,235 minus France 5,445,577. More: EU and other markets.

How to read the figures

  • A count is not a delivery. The figures describe the records on the reference date; the figure in the quote is binding for your selection.
  • Official statistics are not a dataset. The figures from Eurostat and INSEE describe the market, not the size of our exports.
  • The field you need is what counts. How many records in a selection have a complete address, a phone number or a website is stated in the quote.
  • The page date is not the data date. Revising this page does not change how current the data are.

Published versions

  • Measured status: 1,577,933 records, 1,568,763 of them active and 1,505,366 with at least one contact (1,326,371 with phone, 659,494 with own email address, 1,247,091 with website), breakdown by region, status of the website collection and of the Sirene matching.
