Sport, culture or community life: defining the target

First choose the type of organisation (gyms, clubs, cultural venues, professional bodies), then the area. The legal form, filled in after matching with Sirene, will then let you keep or exclude associations.

Our records do not yet carry a NAF code: selecting by activity (NAF subclass) will only be possible for records matched with the Sirene database (matching in progress). The quote states what can be done today: area and required fields.

The official figure shown covers only arts, entertainment and recreation; the membership organisations of division 94 are not counted in it.

Price of the whole industry: €269. A selection by region, sub-industry or required fields is quoted individually; the whole-industry price is not a price promise for the filtered selection.

What counts as Associations, sport and culture

The sector combines arts, entertainment and recreation (divisions 90 to 93 of NAF rév. 2) with the membership organisations of division 94. Legal form and sector do not coincide: a football club is classified under 93.12Z whether it is an association or a company, and the educational activities of a professional body belong to education.

NAF separates fitness facilities (93.13Z), sports clubs (93.12Z) and the operation of facilities such as swimming pools, stadiums or golf courses (93.11Z). In live performance, companies and artists fall under performing arts (90.01Z), sound, lighting and set providers under support activities (90.02Z); ticketing is classified under 79.90Z, with tourism.

RNA, Sirene, performing arts licence: what the registers say

An association can be listed in the national register of associations without being registered in Sirene. That is the main limit of any file built from business registers.

National register of associations (RNA)
The Ministry of the Interior publishes the RNA as open data every month: associations under the 1901 law with their registered office in France, excluding Moselle, Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin, which have a specific regime. The extracts give the name, purpose, registered office address and, where available, website; no phone or email.
Registration in Sirene
An association declared at the prefecture is entered in the RNA automatically; it only needs to register in Sirene if it applies for grants from the state or local authorities, plans to employ staff or carries on activities subject to VAT or corporation tax (Service Public). An association without grants, employees or taxable activities may therefore have no SIREN.
Live performance licence
The licence is mandatory where live performance is the organisation’s main activity, and beyond six performances a year otherwise. The Ministry of Culture publishes a daily list of declarations and their status (name, postcode, SIRET, APE code), which is authoritative on whether a licence is held; a valid declaration counts as a licence for five years.

Not in the export

  • number of members or licensed players
  • affiliated federation
  • name of the chair, treasurer or volunteers
  • RNA number and statutory purpose
  • amount of grants received
  • programme and event calendar

The 15 columns supplied are described on the export page.

Volunteers, registered offices and the sporting season

An association may be registered at a volunteer’s home or at the town hall: the registered office is not always where the activity takes place. For an equipment supplier, the hall or pitch matters more; our place sources give its address where it is published.

Most clubs run on a season from September to early summer. A mailing received before the restart, when equipment purchases are being planned, is more likely to be read than a letter sent in July.

Clubs often use generic addresses (contact@, secretariat@), which belong to the legal entity and fall outside the rules on email prospecting according to the CNIL. For a volunteer’s personal address, the condition that the message relates to the recipient’s profession is hard to meet: stick to generic addresses.

Questions

Associations, sport and culture: frequently asked questions

No. Our file is built from published places and websites: an association with no premises, no public page and no website is not in it. For the purpose and registered office of declared associations, the reference source remains the RNA, published as open data by the Ministry of the Interior.

Not yet: our records do not carry a NAF code or a legal form yet. Fitness facilities have their own subclass (93.13Z), separate from sports clubs (93.12Z), and the forme_juridique column will separate companies from associations for records matched with the Sirene database (matching in progress). The quote states how many records already carry this information.

The Ministry of Culture publishes the list of live performance declarations with their status, which according to the ministry is authoritative. Our export does not contain this information, but the SIRET lets you match the two files for records already matched with Sirene.
