Banks, insurers and financial intermediaries in France

Bank branches, credit companies, insurance companies, tied agents (agents généraux) and brokers, investment advisers and asset managers: for providers of services to branches, compliance software vendors and organisers of professional events who target the financial sector of a region.

Our database for France holds 1,577,933 records (as of 4 November 2026); they are not yet assigned to industries. The quote states the size available for this industry.

Export of the whole industry: €269 (full price). Selections by region, department or your own filters are quoted on request.

Official statistics: 178,111 businesses in France according to Eurostat, structural business statistics (sbs_ovw_act) (reference year 2024, data as of 30 September 2026). Section K financial and insurance activities (divisions 64 to 66), including insurance brokers and agents. This is the size of the market, not the size of our database.

Choosing between networks and intermediaries

First decide whether you are targeting network branches (64.19Z, 65.12Z) or independent intermediaries (66.19B, 66.22Z), then the area. For an email invitation, making the email address a required field shortens the list but makes it directly usable.

Our records do not yet carry a NAF code: selecting by activity (NAF subclass) will only be possible for records matched with the Sirene database (matching in progress). The quote states what can be done today: area and required fields.

The official figure for this sector includes the holding companies in sub-class 64.20Z, which are not financial institutions. It counts enterprises, not branches, and does not match the number of intermediaries registered with ORIAS.

Price of the whole industry: €269. A selection by region, sub-industry or required fields is quoted individually; the whole-industry price is not a price promise for the filtered selection.

What counts as Banking, finance and insurance

The sector covers section K of NAF rév. 2: financial services (64), insurance (65) and auxiliary activities (66). For prospecting, division 66 is often the most useful: it groups insurance agents and brokers (66.22Z) and, in 66.19B according to the INSEE notes, investment advice and mortgage brokers.

Sub-class 64.20Z “Activities of holding companies” groups companies that hold shareholdings without taking part in management: they belong to the sector in the classification but are not financial institutions. Head offices that actually manage their subsidiaries are classified in 70.10Z.

ORIAS and ACPR: authorisation can be checked online

In finance, the right to operate can be checked online: intermediaries with ORIAS, institutions and insurers with the ACPR, the prudential supervisor.

ORIAS, register of intermediaries
ORIAS keeps the official register of insurance, banking and finance intermediaries, in which registration is mandatory. It covers, among others, insurance brokers, tied agents and representatives, intermediaries in banking operations and payment services (IOBSP) and financial investment advisers (CIF). ORIAS counted 72,666 registered intermediaries as of 31 December 2025.
REGAFI, the ACPR register
The register of financial agents published by the ACPR lists the businesses authorised to carry out banking activities as well as the insurance bodies authorised to operate in France. It is updated daily and offers an API.

Not in the export

  • ACPR or AMF authorisation

Branches, intermediaries and head offices: three different targets

A retail bank appears with its branches, each at its own address. For a provider of services to branches (security, fit-out, cleaning), this establishment level is the right one; for a software vendor, the purchasing decision is usually taken at head office.

A tied insurance agent runs an agency under an insurer’s brand but is registered with ORIAS as an intermediary. In a list, the agency may carry the insurer’s name: once the record has been matched with Sirene, the SIREN number tells the agent apart from the insurer itself.

Wealth managers (conseillers en gestion de patrimoine) have no NAF code of their own: depending on their main activity they may fall under 66.19B (investment advice) or 66.22Z (insurance broking). To reach them, select both sub-classes.

Example request

We organise breakfast briefings on compliance for intermediaries and are looking for insurance agents and brokers (66.22Z) in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region with an email address, for an invitation. How many records have a NAF code, and how many also have a website?

Questions

Banking, finance and insurance: frequently asked questions

No. INSEE classifies both in 66.22Z “Activities of insurance agents and brokers”. The registration category (broker, tied agent, representative) is shown in the ORIAS register, which can be searched intermediary by intermediary; it is not a column of our export.

Not yet: our records do not carry a NAF code yet. Once matched with Sirene (matching in progress), establishments in 64.19Z can be selected by département, derived from the postcode; the quote states how many records already have a NAF code. Branches of the same bank share its SIREN number: the siren column, filled in after matching, will let you group them.

No. Our sources are Overture Maps, company websites and, for the matching in progress, INSEE’s Sirene database (sources and methodology). To check that an intermediary is authorised, consult the ORIAS register directly.
