Architects and engineering consultancies: firm data for France

Architecture and urban planning practices, structural, building services and civil engineering consultancies, surveyors, testing laboratories and inspection bodies: for building product manufacturers, design software publishers and suppliers who want to meet the specifiers of an area.

Our database for France holds 1,577,933 records (as of 4 November 2026); they are not yet assigned to industries. The quote states the size available for this industry.

Export of the whole industry: €409 (full price). Selections by region, department or your own filters are quoted on request.

Official statistics: 110,135 businesses in France according to Eurostat, structural business statistics (sbs_ovw_act) (reference year 2024, data as of 30 September 2026). Division 71 architectural and engineering activities, technical testing and analysis. This is the size of the market, not the size of our database.

Reaching the specifiers of an area

Choose 71.11Z and 71.12B, then the départements you deliver to. Add surveyors (71.12A) and laboratories (71.20B) only if your offer concerns them.

Our records do not yet carry a NAF code: selecting by activity (NAF subclass) will only be possible for records matched with the Sirene database (matching in progress). The quote states what can be done today: area and required fields.

The official figure for the industry includes vehicle inspection and testing laboratories. It is not the number of architects on the Order’s register.

Price of the whole industry: €409. A selection by region, sub-industry or required fields is quoted individually; the whole-industry price is not a price promise for the filtered selection.

What counts as Architects and engineering firms

Division 71 of the NAF combines design (architecture, engineering, surveying) with testing (technical analyses, testing and inspections). INSEE also classifies urban planning and landscape architecture here (71.11Z), as well as vehicle roadworthiness testing (71.20A), which is usually removed from a construction-oriented selection.

Neighbouring trades are classified elsewhere: interior decoration in 74.10Z, construction economists in 74.90A, building of detached houses in 41.20A, together with construction and public works.

The register of the Ordre des architectes is online

Before contacting a practice, two public directories let you check its status:

Register of the Order
The register of architects (tableau de l’Ordre) is updated continuously by the Order’s regional councils. It can be searched by name, company name or registration number, postcode, town and region, and by mode of practice: self-employed or sole proprietor, salaried, partner, civil servant or public employee, company.
Architects without design mandates
The same directory lists architects who pursue another activity (teaching, journalism, exclusive expert work…). The Order states that they are not authorised to carry out design and project management assignments and are not insured for them.
France Rénov’
The France Rénov’ directory lists RGE-certified professionals, architects referenced for energy audits and certified assessors for energy performance certificates (DPE).

Not in the export

  • registration with the Order and architects’ registration numbers
  • qualifications and certifications of engineering consultancies
  • project references and clients
  • names of partners and engineers
  • number of employees and turnover

The 15 columns supplied are described on the export page.

Specifiers: choosing the right codes and areas

In a building project, the architect and the engineering consultancy often draft the documents that steer the choice of materials and equipment. For a manufacturer they are specifiers to meet before the tender, not direct buyers.

All engineering specialities share subclass 71.12B: structural, thermal, acoustic or civil engineering cannot be told apart by NAF code. Where the website is included in the export, it remains the most reliable way to check a consultancy’s speciality.

A self-employed architect often uses their own name as the practice name, so their business contact details are personal data. The GDPR requires informing the person of the source of the data (Article 14) and respecting their objection (Article 21).

Example request

As a manufacturer of aluminium windows and doors, we are looking for architecture practices (NAF code 71.11Z) and engineering consultancies (71.12B) in Loire-Atlantique, Vendée and Maine-et-Loire that publish a website, to offer product presentation meetings. How many records have an e-mail address, and how many already have a NAF code?

Questions

Architects and engineering firms: frequently asked questions

No. Registration is checked in the public register of the Ordre des architectes, which also shows the mode of practice. Our export describes the business: company name, address, SIREN and SIRET once matched with the Sirene database, phone, e-mail and website where published.

Not by NAF code, as all engineering specialities share 71.12B. We deliver 71.12B for the chosen area; sorting by speciality is then done from the websites.

Yes, they belong to division 71 (subclass 71.20A). For a construction campaign, ask us to exclude them; a supplier of testing equipment may, on the contrary, want only them. Filtering by code applies to records already matched with the Sirene database; the quote states how many there are.
